Community tours with the Karamojong people involve visiting the homesteads, enjoying a warm welcome by traditional dance performed by local men and women dressed in their traditional attire, visiting the kraals where livestock is kept and learning about the local jewelry including beaded necklace and bracelets.

Visiting the IK people on mount Morungole is also one of the exciting community tours to embark on while in Kidepo.

Best time to visit Kidepo valley.

Uganda experience two climate seasons throughout the year, the wet and dry season.
The dry season presents the best time to visit and take part in different activities in Kidepo.

The dry season

This takes place between December- February and June-September. The vegetation is dried up and scarce during this season, so makes it easy to spot wildlife species during the game drive. This is the time that most tourist will visit the park.

Wet/Rainy season

This occurs from March-May and October-November. Safaris can still be carried out, but some roads may be impassable due to heavy rains and wildlife viewing might be a little limited. However, this time of the year also presents less numbers of tourists which can be advantageous as hotels will have price cuts during this season.

Birdwatching is one of the activities that are better situated for the rainy season. During this time of the year, migratory bird species can be spotted around the national park during bird excursions.
How to get to Kidepo Valley National Park

Kidepo can be accessed by road and by domestic flight. The drive from Kampala to Kidepo National Park takes roughly 10 hours. A flight from Entebbe to Apoka airstrip in Kidepo will take roughly 2 hours.
